Bansuri: Pannalal Ghosh

It was the music instrument of Lord Krishna, who is often depicted playing the six-holed flute. The Bansuri remained a folk instrument until about a century ago, Pannalal Ghosh, like an ingenious inventor started experimenting with the size and number of holes to achieve a richer and more vocal sound. Thus came the new era of Bansuri as it was injected slowly into mainstream raga music. Not only did he metamorphose the instrument, Pannalal Ghosh mastered it too, and thus laid the foundation of a new style of music.

Math & the Universe...

“Mathematics is the only truly universal language, Senator. We think this may be a beacon – an announcement to get our attention”
Jodie Foster as Dr. Eleanor Arroway in the movie Contact.

The question of anybody out there has intrigued us for centuries. So many science fiction movies, tv shows, books have fed on this premise that someday even if aliens do come on earth, we may as well recognize them :) And then what? Well, the opinion varies from something as mild as sharing of knowledge to intergalactic wars. But one thing is for sure, if they ever talk to us, they will do it in numbers... whether those numbers will be pulsed signals at varying frequencies, or some sort of cipher encoded in a trivial message, it will surely be math.

rainy day (1)

I love rainy days... it's one of those days when time stops. A break ratified by the Heavens themselves. Top it in a balcony, a cup of hot tea, and a newspaper, and you wish it never ends...
A walk in the park could be great too. With all that green (including my umbrella) I can hear my retina say: "thank you soo much.. "

Also, a good time to remember that you can help get more more such days by harvesting rainwater
