OpenCourseWare @ MIT

MIT's OCW is a treat for every self-learner. With the best intentions MIT has opened itself to the world in a most true sense. The courses, free of course, are a great way to start learning something new, brush up your fundamentals, or to simply have fun. Some of the video lectures in Physics are to say the least, engrossing!

apple: sweet, expensive... in an unbreakable shell...

I bought a Macbook few days ago, and while I was going gala over its looks and everything, I also wondered how long will Apple keep coming with such products in the future. Clearly, with its vertical integration, Apple is able to optimize best -- everything works like a breeze.... But then Prof. Christensen's comments do concern me over the fate of Apple. With proprietary-ness on most of its products, I wonder if it (Apple) will be able to cater to the increasing customer base; unless of course, they keep their markets limited (personal computers only, that's it!!). All of today's cutting edge products are to say the least, complex. And modularizing is one way to control complexity; Opening up your technology to others promises specialization at smaller level (Linux is not far behind.. :)). With its aggressive foray into so many computer hardware and software services, it may be difficult for a single company to carry on. At the same time, with standardized interfaces, it may also not be hard to overcome a custom-built optimized design. I mean check out the latest Thinkpads!!
So Mr. Jobs, why not relieve some burden off your shoulders? Rather than having Windows run on Mac, why not let OS X on a PC!
